This chapter provides an overview on sewage analysis. Because water pollution can come from many different sources, a wide variety of analytical parameters are considered in this chapter, including some general physical (temperature, conductivity, total dissolved solids…) and chemical (biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, acidity and alkalinity…) parameters, and some specific chemical compounds (metals, ions etc.) including contaminants of emerging concern and organic micropollutants. Suitable treatments for sewage purification (physical, chemical and biological) are considered for different pollutants. Analytical control of those parameters in sewage treatment plants and the analytical control of sewage sludge can be also found in this chapter.
